Grads 2010 Hockey Factory Import Camp

Once again, the Cumberland Grads Jr. A Hockey Club will be hosting the Hockey Factory Import Camp for players from outside the Ottawa draft area. The purpose of this camp is to bring talented hockey players together to compete for positions on next year's Junior A team. Players will also have a chance to meet the Grads coaching and scouting staff.

Each year the Grads look to augment their local talent pool with approximately five to seven players from outside our area. The camp will be held at the Ray Friel Centre from Friday June 18th (evening) to Sunday June 20th. Format for the camp will be practices and intrasquad games. The Grads will supply jerseys, waterbottles, training staff and referees. Each player must provide their own equipment, sticks, transportation to and from the rink and accommodations, while at the camp. The cost of the camp is only $155.00 CAD - cheques can be made payable to the Cumberland Grads Jr. A Hockey Club.

The Grads are very proud of their record of player development not to mention our four Robinson Division banners in the last eight seasons. Our alumni currently play in many pro leagues including the NHL - Stephane Yelle (Colorado), Matt Bradley (Washington), and Claude Giroux (Philadelphia); the AHL - Jonathon Matsumoto (Philadelphia), and the ECHL, CHL and Europe. Our younger alumni (too numerous to mention) are in the NCAA, OHL, QMJHL and CIS. Eric O'Dell, (2008) recently won a Gold medal as a member of Team Canada at the World U-18 Chammpionship and was drafted 39th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.. Another of our alumni (Simon Lambert) was a finalist for the 2009 Hobey Baker Award as the top player in the NCAA. Not to be outdone, another of our alumni (Jason Akeson) is currently one of the scoring leaders for the Kitchener Rangers.

Bottom line - we run a very strong development program that gets noticed by scouts. Last season David Pacan (Grads 2008-09) was drafted directly to the NHL right off our roster! Want to get noticed - be a Grad!

Given our deserved strong reputation for developing players for the next level, our games are heavily scouted by NCAA and CIS schools; both the OHL and the QMJHL as well as numerous NHL teams and NHL Central Scouting. Scouts are present at every one of our home games. We're serious about hockey and want players that are just as committed. The Grads play home games at the Navan Memorial Centre where our dedicated dressing room and workout area was built new as of November 2009 - it's big, bright and high Junior A quality, not to mention all ours.

Young athletes want to be part of the Grads tradition - parents of elite athletes want their kids to be Grads. Therefore this camp will fill quickly.
